چکیده

maharlu saline lake is located in the sw of iran. to assess the environmental pollution of thelake, the total concentrations of as, cr, co, cu, cd, pb, zn, ni, fe, and mn were determined in the surfacesediments and water of the lake. as and cr were not detected in the water samples, however, the meanconcentrations of other dissolved metals in maharlu lake water were 0.28 mg/l for cu, 0.28 μg/l for cd, 5.17μg/l for pb, 0.37 mg/l for zn, 2.36 μg/l for ni, 2.88 μg/l for co, 10.4 mg/l for fe, and 1.5 mg/l for mn.different water and sediment quality assessment approaches indicated that in this lake, metals can be dividedinto three different groups: (a) co, pb, and cd. these metals have the highest enrichment factors (the meanvalues are 35.8, 76.9, and >36.6, respectively), geoaccumulation indexes (the mean values are >3), andcontamination factors (11.1, 29, and 8, respectively) compared with other studied elements; thus, the maharlulake is highly polluted with these metals, and they are mainly from anthropogenic sources; (b) cu, zn, andni. their mean enrichment factor values are 6.6, 3.4, and 6, respectively; their mean geoacumulation indexesare

Potentially Toxic Elements Contamination in Sediment, Surface and Pore water of Maharlu Saline Lake, South - West Iran

Maharlu Lake, located in the SW of Iran, has acted as a sink for various wastewater discharges in the last few decades. This study aimed at assessing potentially toxic elements (PTEs) distribution in sediment, surface and pore water samples of Maharlu Lake. To achieve that, the samples were collected from each compartment and the total concentration of PTEs (Al, Fe, Sc, Cr, Co, Ni, Zn, As, Sb, ...

Investigation of Heavy Metal Contamination in the Surface Sediments of Anzali wetland in North of Iran

Over the last few decades, Anzali wetland has been at risk of pollutants, especially from heavy metals. The present research analyzes some physical and chemical properties and heavy metals concentration in 27 points in nine stations of Anzali wetland. The samples of each station have been mixed, acidic digested, and analyzed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS). The mean con...

Assessment of Heavy Metal Contamination in Surface Soils of Ahvaz IV Industrial Estate, Khuzestan Province, Iran

Background and Purpose: In the environment, heavy metals in high concentration are toxic to most organisms. Human activities have continuously increased the concentration of these metals in the environment such as soils. In the present study, soil samples collected from Ahvaz IV industrial estate in Khuzestan Province. Materials and Methods: The soil samples were taken from 9 ...

Heavy metal contamination in surface sediments of four important rivers leading to the Caspian Sea

Heavy metals tend to be adsorbed and accumulated in sediments as opposed to water or suspended solids. Sediments and biota bodis can act as a final sink for heavy metals in the aquatic environments. They accumulate through the food chain posing potential biological and ecological risks. Therefore, research on the heavy metal concentrations in aquatic ecosystems can help to protect human health ...

Evaluation of the status of heavy metal pollution in surface water and sediments of the Nil River (North Eastern Algeria)

Water and sediment samples were collected from six different stations, located along the Nil River between February and June 2015. Concentrations of cadmium, lead, zinc, and copper were determined. The extent of the sediment pollution was assessed, using the multiple pollution indices, namely contamination factor (CF), pollution load index (PLI), and the geoaccumulation index (Igeo). The result...
